PSA Group, which controls such automotive brands as Citroen, DS, Opel and Peugeot, has reported profits in the first half of 2020 despite the Covid-19 crisis. Today, the company reveals details about eVMP, its latest full-size electric car platform.

The battery-powered version of the Peugeot 3008 will be the first vehicle to take advantage of this tech when it ships in 2023. Right now, the only electric car architecture PSA has access to is CMP, which is compact-sized and lies at the core of the Citroen e-C4, Opel Corsa-e and Mokka-e, as well as Peugeot e-208 and e-2008. The powertrain includes a single 136-hp (100-kW) electric motor that connects to a 50-kWh battery and drives the front axle.

The eVMP will support large cars, such as the Opel Astra and Peugeot 308, and will offer a choice between front-wheel drive and 4WD. Available engine power rises to 340 hp (254 kW), and supported batteries vary between 60 and 100 kilowatt-hours in size. The maximum range is reported at 650 kilometers (404 miles).

On an interesting side note, PSA reveals that every meter of inter-axle space can hold batteries summing up to 50 kWh of power. Thus, the Peugeout 3008 with its 2.65m wheelbase could theoretically hold 134 kilowatt-hours’ worth of batteries.

The M letter in the eVMP stands for “modular”, which means it can be used for even larger cars such as the Opel Insignia or Peugeot 508.

The currently available Peugeot 3008 only ships in one electrified spec, which is called Hybrid4. You may have a look at it in our gallery here.
