Audi brings the CNG-powered A3 30 g-tron to Europe
Audi has launched a new “30 g-tron” spec of its A3 Sportback. The car runs on condensed natural gas and will soon go on sale starting from €30,700.
The new spec can function on natural gas or biomethane. There are three gas cylinder located in its rear end, rated for 445 kilometers (276 miles) of range when full.
There is also a small nine-liter petrol tank provided for when the outside temperature is too low for the CNG motor to start. Aside from heating the main motor, the petrol tank can serve as a limited source of power that will get you to the nearest CNG station.
The new Audi A3 looks identical to its other versions and has the same equipment, including LED lights, the digital dashboard and driving assists. The only caveat is that the trunk size goes down 100 liters to just 280 liters total.
Powering the Sportback is a 1.5-liter turbocharged engine rated at 131 hp (98 kW) and 200 Nm (148 lb-ft) of torque. The sprint from zero to 100 km/h (0-62 mph) succeeds in 9.7 seconds, and the top speed amounts to 211 km/h (131 mph).
